Final Reflection

When the last day of final exam, I was informed to attend 3weeks of MPU classes. 24th Nov, I was here and attended 4days of MPU1 classes where I was taught of Personal Development Planning(PDP). The 1st day, we had completed the Taylor's Graduate Capabilities which would be our reflective 1, which we have to analyse what capability that we had developed throughout the entire South Australian Matriculation(SAM) in Taylor's College Subang Jaya(TCSJ), such as interpersonal skills, digital literacy and etc. Besides, we are required to create a E-portfolio, or so called blog, by posting the activities done in our class into our blog. In the blog, we will need to post our biodata and inspiration. Besides, We will need to update our blog everyday on what we have learned everyday. The second day, we have to identify SWOT (Strength, Weakness, Opportunity, Threat) in all the drama by 12 groups. The third day, we are required to complete our SMART goal based on our field of studies and SWOT. Besides, we had also done the learning style test. It able to identify which style of learning suits us the most. For me, I am a kinesthetic learner, which means that to improve my grades, I will need to do as much exercise as I can so that all of the things to get inside my brain. The forth day, we took the career test, which able to determine which type of personality bases on 6 categories, which is Realistic, Investigative, Artistic, Social, Enterprise and Conventional. For me, I am a Social personality and I am quite agree on it because I always choose to work in a group form.
Throughout the entire MPU classes, I get the opportunity to identify and clear my mind on what am I going for my future.

Action Plan

Among my goals, the goals that I most wanted to focus on right now will be get enrolled into the University of Melbourne. If I able to get enrol into University of Melbourne, I am able to study the course that I interested, which is Chemical Engineering. University of Melbourne is the top university for engineering in Australia. To work towards the goal, I will need to pay more efforts on study English because my English is relatively weaker than others.

To achieving the goal, I had decided to take IELTS test. When I am preparing IELTS, I will need to train my speaking skills, reading skills, listening skills and writing skills. As this is able to train my English from all perspective.

To achieve the goals, I have my parents' fully support, from physically, to mentally, and also financially. By having their support, I am able to fully focus on my study. Whenever I have any trouble on anything, they will help me to figure out what is the reason and get a solution to solve the problem.

The obstacle to achieve the goals will be my procrastination and poor time management. To overcome the obstacle, I had consulted my teachers and seniors on how they manage their time during their college life and starts to have a 1week,1month and also 1 year plan. Besides, I also make a time table for every day as this able to study and improve my English skills.

SMART Goals

Goal: I want to prepare myself to get into the University of Melbourne for admission into the Chemical Engineering.

Specific: I want to achieve a average band 6.5 for IELTS

Measurable: I will make a time table for revision and speak English with my friends.

Attainable: Score at least band 6.0 on every field in IELTS

Relevant: Study and read everything relevant to IELTS to prepare myself.

Time-bound: My goal is to score band 6.5 in IELTS by January 2015.

SWOT Test

Strength
-I am able to analyse every information I receive in a very short time.
-I am a caring person and tends to put other first.
-I had planned everything for my future until 40 years old.
Weakness
-I would like to push all my date line as late as possible, yeah, procastination.
-Bad time management and yeah, sometimes I have no idea what is going to happen tomorrow.
-I am a very careless person which also causes a lot of unnecessary problem.
-My grades is only average, or just above average.
-My English is not good enough.
Opportunity
-I have no trouble on the tuition fees and I can choose which university that I want.
-I have cousins who are expert in different field, and especially in oil and gas industry.
-I have fully support from my parents as they allow me to choose what course I want.
Threat
-My English is weak and my peers are able to speak and write English better than me.
-I have sleeping problem for the pass few months.

Goal for University

Name of University: Taylor's University Lakeside Campus
Courses: Bachelor of Engineering, Chemical
Requirement: ATAR 70, C for Physics, Mathematical Studies

Name of University: Monash University Malaysia Campus
Courses: Bachelor of Engineering, Chemical
Requirement: ATAR 86.4,C for Chemistry, Mathematical Studies

Name of University: University of Melbourne
Courses:Bachelor of Science, Major in Chemical System, Master in Engineering, Chemical
Requirement: ATAR 85,C for Physics, Mathematical Studies, Specialist Mathematics

To prepare and adapt myself to university life and fulfil the criteria to enter the university above, I had started to survey the requirement of the subject. For Chemical Engineering, I will need to have a strong base of Physic knowledge of thermodynamic, and also Chemical knowledge of reaction. Besides,  a strong Mathematical Knowledge is also a very important for Chemical Engineer.

Inspiration

The person who inspire me will be my cousin, Teh Chui Hoon.
Why she will be the one who inspire me? She start her career in AC Nielsen, and switch to Carlsberg Malaysia as a Brand Manager, and now she is the Marketing Director of Carlsberg China. Her life was so hectic as she needs to travel all over Malaysia, from Perlis, to Johor, and also Sabah and Sarawak. She told me that to be a successful person, you will need to pay more efforts. In facts, she only sleep for 2 hours per days and she needs to drink a lot of alcoholic drinks as this is part of her job.

She is my wisemen, my advisor, my idol. She always share her experience to me and tell me what to do time by time. Besides, she always be there when I need any advise, such as choosing University, choosing courses, make some decision of life and etc. She always able to let me know what should I do and what should not.

Reflection 1

In SAM, we did a lot of physics experiment and issue investigation. We applied the theories we learnt in our daily lives, for example now we knew how X-ray is generated. We also have a deeper understanding in water wave and also principle of tsunami. These knowledge that we learnt allow us to solve complex problems into simple approaches. We can improve our experimental skills and increases the specific knowledge of this particular subject. All of us are going to be engineers in the future, so learning physics will definitely help us a lot in our university education. The physics concept enable us to do assignments and solve specific problems in our future.

All those physics experiment that we had done depends on problem solving skills. These experiments polish our thinking and problem solving skills. During each experiment, we are required to think the concept, derive the formula, plot graphs and make conclusion. If the conclusion is different from the hypothesis, we also need to identify the errors such as systematic and random errors. When we do the experiment, some problems might appear and we will used to cooperate to solve the problems. This can train our mind and improve our thinking skills.

For developing communication skill, all those physics experiment that we had done are required us to communicate with our teammates, for example one of our group assignments require us to discuss the experiment procedures and plan the steps in order for us to complete the tasks. With these tasks, we are able to improve our communication skills and also foster our friendship, and finally complete the experiments with ease. After we finished the experiments, we also have to write a report as experiment task. Errors are discussed and presented tidily in the group report. Subsequently, we are able to communicate well in our university courses. Obviously, communicate is one of the essential element of being an engineer. Overall communicate is not as hard as it seen if only everyone in the group is willing to give opinions and feedback. Certainly, this skill will help us a lot in our social life in the future.
